Using MIGRA to Lotus Notes
AmSouth Bancorporation, headquartered in Birmingham Alabama, is one of the
Southeast's premier banks. AmSouth's oldest predecessor bank, First National
Bank of Birmingham, opened for business in 1873. Today, AmSouth operates
over 270 banking offices in four states and has assets exceeding $18 billion.
Traditionally, bank computing was centralized around mainframe processors.
However, as personal computers evolved, the implementation of work station
and client server based systems have increased significantly. At
AmSouth,
many users indicated their desire to move from IBM's OfficeVision/MVS to
Lotus Notes.
Two issues arose in achieving this goal: migration and co-existence. AmSouth
wanted the ability to easily migrate users and their current e-mail messages
to Lotus Notes. It was important to make the transition as seamless as possible
as well as allow users who had migrated to be able to continue electronic
communication with departments remaining on Office Vision.
To address these issues, AmSouth chose to implement two products marketed
by ReSoft International - OfficePath/SNADS and MIGRA. OfficePath/SNADS, in
conjunction with the Lotus SoftSwitch product, provided a streamlined mechanism
to exchange e-mail between the two environments. MIGRA gave AmSouth the ability
to coordinate the migration of users and their documents in line with the
roll-out of the Notes infrastructure and training.
Michael O'Brien, Vice President and Senior Project Manager in Technology
Planning commented "MIGRA and OfficePath greatly simplified the
process of moving existing e-mail users to the Lotus Notes environment. MIGRA
was a much better alternative than asking users or administrators to do it
manually."
Regarding software implementation, O'Brien adds "an e-mail gateway has
more components than you would expect at first. We were pleased that MIGRA
and OfficePath installed without a hitch".
