Websense In Use At Canada Customs
and Revenue Agency
Filtering Software Promotes Productive Internet Use The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), formerly known as Revenue Canada, administers four functions on behalf of the Government of Canada - tax collection, trade regulation, customs enforcement and distribution of social payments to Canadians. The CCRA aims to promote compliance with Canada's tax, trade and border legislation, while being committed to the values of integrity, professionalism, respect and cooperation. With the agency employing nearly 25,000 workers with Internet access, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency sought an employee Internet management (EIM) software product to automate the agency's Internet access policy. The CCRA's needs were specific: the solution should prevent access to inappropriate sites using comprehensive decision-making intelligence, while allowing certain groups to access sites specific to their job function - for example, enabling the CCRA's customs inspectors to access firearms imports sites. After evaluating several products in the EIM market, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency selected Websense Enterprise software. The CCRA integrates the filtering solution with its existing Microsoft Proxy Server. "In addition to Websense Enterprise's excellent database categorization, the product is fully automated," said Jamie Belair, CCRA senior technical specialist. "And the administration tool enables access to certain material for the various groups of people who require it." Reprinted with kind permission of Websense Inc.
