Maritz protects email with  MIMEsweeper

Maritz Inc. is a business-services firm that specializes in Travel, Marketing Research, and Performance Improvement. Headquartered in St Louis Missouri, Maritz Inc. delivers its services though 6,500 employees in 19 operating companies including the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany and Italy plus 48 associate companies located in 39 countries.

5,000 users worldwide use the Maritz email system, based on Microsoft Exchange.  As a service organization, email is a critical mechanism for Maritz employees to provide timely communications with their corporate customers - email is used heavily as a means of keeping customers appraised of the latest company offers and services. 

But coupled with the benefits of using email, also come potential threats.  Maritz' technical staff wanted to ensure that is was not possible for users to inadvertently send viruses out to their customers across the internet or to receive viruses from internet email.  Maritz's technical group worked with ReSoft International to implement a pilot implementation of the Mailsweeper for SMTP product to prove the technology in its environment. 

Mailsweeper for SMTP acts as an SMTP relay host. It provides the ability to inspect inbound and outbound email for threats based upon policies that have been defined in the system.  One of the tests involved integrating an anti-virus tool into the Mailsweeper system.

Kim Clark, Manager of Messaging Systems & Network Project Management was responsible for the project.  She says "Implementing Mailsweeper at our email perimeter has provided us with a very effective level of defense against email-borne threats. Mailsweeper's design allows us to add new policies very quickly as we identify new threats".
