When Steven Kieffer, Senior Network Analyst, needed to find e-mail fast across more than 2,200 mailboxes, over a dozen remote sites, he turned to C2C's Active Folders Content Manager.
Two-node Exchange 2000 cluster server, more than 2,200 mailboxes, over a dozen remote sites. This is the technology environment at Schreiber Foods, Inc., a $2+ billion global enterprise and the world's largest privately held cheese company.
"Schreiber Foods needed a fast and easy tool that could gather data from our Exchange 2000 server, if the need was required," he says. "It had to be able to search all e-mail messages in Exchange message stores and have advanced searching capabilities to find specific content."
With a global messaging environment, this is easier said than done. From its headquarters in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Schreiber works with sales, processing and distribution facilities in the United States, Brazil, Germany and Mexico. Its products - which include process, natural, cream and specialty cheese - are sold to the biggest names in fast food and are the nation's largest supplier of store-brand cheese products to grocery chains and wholesalers. This means processing up to 20,000 messages a day.
Instant Retrieval
"The requirements were for instant retrieval of any e-mail message from the data store within one day. Our previous mainframe e-mail software provided this functionality, but it was lost with the migration to MS Exchange 2000," says Kieffer, who has worked at Schreiber for almost six years. "A business requirement came up shortly after the purchase of Active Folders that demanded messages be found containing key words in e-mail messages. Active Folders was able to extract the messages within hours. Without Active Folders, this would not have been possible."
Schreiber recently upgraded to Active Folders 4.0, which allows Schreiber to search single or multiple Information Stores; local and central PSTs; mailboxes, folders or sub-folders of mailboxes; folder type or name; content of message or item; property of message or item; or by any combination of these.
"When legal requirements dictated the review of e-mail content stored in our Exchange 2000 server, Active Folders allowed us to get control of the e-mail data we own," says Kieffer. "Active Folders is an essential tool to the support of our Exchange 2000 server environment. Without C2C Active Folders, you are blind to supporting Exchange 2000 data storage."
