PolicyMatter addresses the issues in measuring policy
compliance, distributing policies such as codes of conduct policy, corporate
ethics policy, corporate governance principles as well as managing codes of
conduct, codes of ethics, corporate policy development, corporate policy
measurement, corporate policy distribution and managing professional conduct.
Across the enterprise there have need substantial changes in individual accountabilities and
responsibilities. Company officers are responsible for the behavior of their employees as never before.
Penalties for non-compliance run to millions of dollars or even to point of company extinction. Against
this background, organizations are dutifully spending time on writing policies that reflect key behaviors
and processes. Yet traditional approaches to communicating and auditing policy acceptance struggle.
Handbooks, Intranets, e-learning and workflow systems are varyingly being found to be inflexible, easy
to ignore, expensive to integrate into the customer environment, or only really designed to assist the
voluntary acquisition of knowledge by internal employees. Overall it is becoming increasingly hard for the board to enforce awareness of its key policies, have
clear visibility of policy acceptance, or demonstrate the rigorous systems that present and forthcoming
regulation demands.
In this paper we explore a number of the factors that have led to this state of affairs. In addition
we set out how, with the development of new approaches such as the PolicyMatter solution,
organizations can, for the first time, take real steps to counter the long established “People Problem”
and fill the gap in the compliance and security loop.
