UpdateEXPERT Evaluation Guide

This evaluation guide will help users to compare UpdateEXPERT to any product that researches, takes inventory, validates installations and/or deploys service packs and hotfixes. Main Feature Test Procedures
Research
  1. Select the research view icon. Research View
  2. Sort by release date. This can be accomplished by clicking the header twice.
    Research Grid Headers
    An arrow should appear and be pointing down.
  3. Note the value in the QArticle column for the fix at the top.
  4. Click on this row to view the article. 

Note: 

  • The applications available.

  • The list of articles remains. 

  • You do not switch views.
  • You can download directly.
  • The swift nature that data are provided.
Inventory
and
Validation
  1. Select any number of machines and right-click. This action displays the following pop-up menu.

  2. Select "Query selected" menu option. Inventory is now completed.

Note: 

  • Only those updates which are applicable to the machines selected are displayed. This is the union of all updates applicable for the selected machines.

  • The install status of all updates is displayed.

  • It is easy to see what updates are missing and their categories. 

Now, try this!

  1. Right-click and select "Validate selected."

  2. Observe the visual queues that help you to see what installations are completed, missing and valid.

Note: 

  • Here are the visual queues definitions.

    • MixedThis fix is in a mixed state.  More than one machine is selected and the machines do not all have the same status for this fix.  Set your mouse cursor over the icon for more details.

    • InstalledThis fix is installed.  The fix has been installed, but no validation has been attempted.

    • Not InstalledThis fix has not been installed

    • ObsoleteThis fix is obsolete

    • Obsolete and InstalledThis fix is obsolete, but it is installed on the selected machines.

    • Installed and ValidatedThis fix is valid.

    • Installed but not validatedThis fix is not valid.

    • Installed, tested for validation but no validation information is availableThis fix is installed, but there is no validation information available.

    • Installed but an error occurred when testing for validationThis fix is installed, but an error occurred while validating.

    • Required: always shows up with another iconA checkmark denotes a required update.

Deployment
  1. Select any number of machines from deployment view. Deployment view button

  2. Select a hotfix you want to deploy to the selected machines.

  3. Right-click on the hotfix row, and the following pop-up menu will be displayed.

  4. Select the "Install" menu item, and the following dialog will be displayed.

  5. Schedule the installation and click "Install." You do not need to deploy immediately if that is your wish.

Note: 

  • Users can check accurate job status of any deployment.

  • In cases where a hotfix is already installed, UpdateEXPERT is intelligent enough to prompt users and make sure that you want to re-install.

  • UpdateEXPERT is smart enough to deploy the correct updates to each machine according to inventory results.

  • Deployment process does not require an agent to be installed on your systems.

  • Users are not punished for forgetting to download updates before the deployment step. UpdateEXPERT is smart and knows to download the fixes for you.

  • Users do not need to perform these tasks a machine at a time. Group machines as you wish and let UpdateEXPERT do the rest.

  • You can use the reports sit back and view your handiwork.
