Legal implications regarding attachments contained within email messages have become a very visible issue and many steps have been taken to manage the attachments properly. However, this should not be the end of the concern. If a user saves an attachment to his/her hard drive, the problem still exists, but on a much broader scale. So now the issue is, how to manage the attachments that have become permanent files.
File Attender can manage the business sensitive files on a user's hard drive or Domino server hard drive that were previously out of reach. Using File Attender, you can locate files within specified locations using the file age, name and/or size and perform one of several actions:
- Archive files to a centralized location while leaving behind a shortcut to locate and/or open the archived file
- Collect a list of the files that exist
- Copy the files to another location (e.g. file server)
- Delete unnecessary files
- Move the files to another location (e.g. file server)
- Rename existing files
- Manage files based on content (ex. keywords) when used in conjunction with Discovery Attender for Notes
- Archived files can reside on any random access storage that the user or server can address (File server, WORM, SANS, NAS, JukeBox, etc.).
Management is automatically performed by File Attender’s enforcement of File Restrictions that are created by Lotus Notes administrators. Administrators also have the ability to specify the files, locations, actions and users that are to be processed. File Attender must be installed on every mail server that has at least one user that requires processing.
