OfficePath/SNADS provides connectivity between Mainframe Applications, OV/MVS,
PROFS, OfficeVision/VM and CA-Email to any SNADS capable system in your internal
environment as well as to external systems.
OfficePath/SNADS utilizes IBM's SNADS architecture - IBM's SNA network and
SNADS messaging protocol is a defacto standard for the provision of "store
and forward" messaging. OfficePath/SNADS has been developed to exploit this
protocol which provides connectivity to the majority of e-mail systems:
-
Office/400
-
cc:Mail **
-
Lotus Notes **
-
Memo
-
Advantis IMX
-
MS Mail and Exchange **
-
SoftSwitch Central & Lotus LMS
-
Groupwise **
OfficePath/SNADS connects non-SNADS systems like OV/MVS, OfficeVision/VM
and PROFS and CA-EMail, to the SNADS world through its powerful API.
Co-existence
As organizations migrate their user population from mainframe to Client-Server,
great importance is being placed on e-mail as corporations look for ways
to implement external connectivity and "mail-enable" applications to provide
streamlined communications and business processes. By using OfficePath/SNADS,
users can exploit these benefits without the added expense of developing
complex interfaces. When compared to IBM's DISOSS software for distribution
services, OfficePath/SNADS can offer 40% savings in machine utilization,
minimal administration, and cost-justification in less than one year.
Migration
OfficePath assists in an orderly migration from the mainframe e-mail environment
to Client-Server through the following features:
REDIRECTOR - As mail passes through the OfficePath hub, its Redirector feature
examines the user-ids of the originator and the recipients and, where requested,
changes them. This is particularly useful when a user has migrated to the
LAN but mail is still being delivered to the old legacy id. OfficePath can
be used to trap and redirect these messages to the new destination.
MESSAGE TRACKING - Once a migration has commenced, the successful delivery
of mail between the old and new systems becomes paramount to the project
success. OfficePath provides sophisticated on-line message tracking to ensure
no e-mail messages get lost during the transition period.
INTEGRATION BETWEEN LAN E-MAIL AND EXISTING LEGACY APPLICATIONS - When a
user is migrated to the LAN, there is often application information the user
requires that still resides on the host. OfficePath provides "mail-enabling"
capabilities to allow output from host applications to be e-mailed to the
users new LAN based system.
