Secure Documents for PDF enables you to control the four most
important aspects of your information:
Access: You decide who reads your document and
when they can read it. Even after it's sent, you can
change the expiration date or selectively expire one
group of users while allowing continued access by
another. Secure Documents for PDF lets you set multiple viewing
policies for a single document with page-level
granularity.
Use: You decide what recipients do with the
information. Secure Documents for PDF's printing feature enables you
to prohibit the printing of any document or portion of a
document. If printing privileges are granted, a
watermark can be placed on any or all pages. You can
also prevent someone from forwarding a document by
blocking the "Copy/Paste" and "Save
as" functions.
Security: Secure Documents for PDF encrypts each page within a
document and then registers the keys for accessing these
pages with the Recall server. This means that wherever
the document is located, the information within the
document is tamper-proof and protected.
Tracking: Secure Documents for PDF lets you track document
activity to see which pages were viewed, by whom, when,
from where, and for how long. Secure Documents for PDF's audit trail
even includes a list of those who are denied access, so
you can track who is trying to access information
without your authorization. In addition, tracking
provides confirmation of document delivery and lets you
see what pages have been read or printed.
How Secure Documents for PDF Works
As a document author, you create a policy that
determines how any one individual or group may access or
use the document. These policies are stored on a Recall
Server and can be changed at a moment's notice, even
after the document has been sent. With Secure Documents for PDF, it
takes only a few keystrokes to turn a document, such as
a Microsoft® Word®, Excel®, or PowerPoint® file,
into a Secure Documents for PDF-protected PDF document. Secure Documents for PDF
encrypts each individual page and then registers the
decryption keys and policies with the Recall Server.
When an authorized user attempts to open the document, a
dialogue box opens, asking for a user name, password or
digital certificate. The user's computer then connects
to the document author's Recall server and provides an
electronic key that allows the document to be opened.
The Recall server only provides keys to authorized users
and only as directed by the established policies.
