Topper
for IP Management includes 5 basic types of testing that help to
ensure the proper and timely functioning of your IP network network
IP
Ping Tests -
TOPPER
can send Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) pings to IP
addresses to test the availability of the address in your IP network.
They can be timed to alarm if the reply exceeds the threshold you set
up. If the ping takes too long or cannot reach the address, then
Topper will notify the appropriate staff of the problem
Communication
port testing -
TOPPER can test the
availability of IP-based mail systems from a user's perspective. This
includes the ability to establish a connection to SMTP,
POP3, IMAP4, & LDAP Ports. If
the log in fails or exceeds your pre-configures time threshold, TOPPER
will notify the appropriate staff of the problem
DNS
Testing -
TOPPER can query name servers for specific domains to see if
that server has an entry for that domain. You may also enter a
verification string in order to make sure that the entry is correct.
This is a good way to help ensure that maintenance operations have not
removed a valid entry or propagated it incorrectly. You may also time
these queries to help uncover bottlenecks at the resolution process in
your network. If the lookup fails or takes too long TOPPER will notify
the appropriate staff of the problem
HTTP
connectivity tests - TOPPER
can time the download of web pages. You set thresholds for acceptable
service. If the down load time exceeds one of those thresholds, or if
Topper cannot complete the connection, TOPPER will notify the
appropriate staff of the problem. This is an excellent way to ensure
that your Corporate web site is delivering an acceptable level of
service to your customers
FTP
connectivity testing -
TOPPER can time the reading of files from FTP sites. You set
thresholds for acceptable file transfer. If the file transfer time
exceeds one of those thresholds, or if a connection cannot be
established, TOPPER will notify the appropriate staff of the problem
