Unify Benefits:
  • Password self service can eliminate up to 30% of help desk calls

  • Distribution list self service can eliminate up to 40% of calls

  • Employees’ downtime is minimized when they don’t have to wait for trouble tickets to be actioned

  • Unauthorized AD,  Exchange & OCS changes are prevented and the number of privileged accounts reduced,  resulting in reduced configuration errors that lead to costly downtime

  • All actions taken are logged for compliance audits and internal oversight

“Unify is like an expert system that is programmed to perform day-to-day AD/Exchange operations under the guidance of staff members who may not be particularly experienced.”
Ferris Research

"We were impressed by the speed and ease with which Unify was installed. It has certainly made user provisioning a much simpler and more productive task and has freed our IT department for other more critical purposes.”
Jonathon Taylor, IT Manager
California State University

"Unify has enabled us to accelerate our go-to-market program by simplifying the process of provisioning new customers, and allowing them to manage themselves. Since we deployed Unify, TELUS has reduced its cost of operations by more than 40%."
Jean-Pierre L. Gauvin Senior Product Manager Messaging and Collaboration, TELUS

“Before Unify, we spent three hours per day resetting passwords, now we spend less than 30 minutes. Users now manage their own accounts based on standard IT policy, improving response time while giving IT a complete audit trail. It’s a great addition to our environment. We can handle
employee growth without adding new IT staff.”

Unify - OCS Manager
Simplifies OCS deployment & management

Deployment and capacity planning for Microsoft Office Communications Server can be exceptionally difficult. Careful consideration must be given to the significant provisioning and administration challenges system administrators will face on a daily basis:

  • System security and data integrity will be compromised if system administrators delegate tasks to the help desk because every delegated administrator will have full administrative privileges -  native tools only offer all-or-nothing access.

  • Ongoing user administration is time-consuming and labor-intensive because native interfaces do not support bulk updates to user configurations.

  • Standardization or enforcement of business processes is almost impossible without spending a lot of dollars to build complex code and logic.

  • Native interfaces provide little or no support for integration with existing identity management and maintenance systems.

  • Native interfaces do not allow system administrators to manage server pools automatically during the provisioning process. As a result, system administrators must manually track the number of users on a server pool to maintain any semblance of control over resource management.

Feature Description: Unify OCS Manager

Unify OCS Manager extends the features of Unify’s core engine to OCS provisioning and administration:

  • Unify’s template-based provisioning gives system administrators the ability to define various different ‘flavors’ of OCS functionality according to the usage requirements of different groups of users within the organization.

  • Unify enables system administrators to customize and control auto-provisioning of users across multiple server pools. System administrators can use Unify to either load balance or tight pack their OCS server pools.

  • Unify’s customizable and extensible provisioning workflow allows system administrators to integrate and enforce the company’s business processes for OCS provisioning. These extensions can be used to implement authorization processes, customize notifications to users, or anything else that might be required by processes unique to each customer.

  • Unify’s robust web services API allows full interoperability and integration with existing ERP or intranet systems.

  • Unify’s role-based delegated administration ensures that system administrators do not have to give out elevated permissions to help desk administrators. The granularity in Unify’s role-based delegated administration empowers system administrators to delegate down as much - or as little - control as they want.

  • All system activity is logged in Unify’s transaction logs. Who, where, what, and when information is recorded for each action performed through Unify.

Benefits

  • A full-featured OCS provisioning solution helps system administrators deploy and manage OCS user accounts quickly. In the absence of a solution like Unify, enterprises must undertake a very expensive internal build project—with the added risk that they will end up with a suboptimal solution. The ROI offered by Unify’s out‐of‐the‐box OCS provisioning support is unparalleled.

  • Unify’s robust snap‐in approach allows Enterprises to get the maximum return from their existing investment in the supporting infrastructure. Unlike other approaches, which require overhauling existing systems or building new siloed systems, Unify just fits on existing infrastructure and works seamlessly with your existing processes.

  • Unify’s granular role‐based delegated administration allows customers to secure their OCS infrastructure by controlling who can do what in OCS. This helps minimize the downtime caused by malicious attacks.

  • Standardization of provisioning and enforcement of business processes helps system administrators avoid misconfiguration and costly maintenance overheads.

  • Detailed transaction and system activity logs help companies to meet compliance and security audits.

Group Chat Server

Group Chat is one of the most exciting new features of OCS 2007 R2. Group chat allows users and administrators to create conversations in chat rooms that users can visit anytime and read or participate in an ongoing discussion. Compared to long email threads and non-persistent IM, group chat is a much more efficient way to collaborate on specific topics. While Group Chat is a significant advance in collaboration technology, most medium and larger Enterprises in regulated environments – particularly finance, health care and pharma – will find provisioning users and ongoing change management much more complex. This is particularly true when it comes to assigning and maintaining entitlement authorization policies for compliance and security purposes

Chat Room Management

Chat room managers are an important component in moderated discussions and Unify provides you with the ability to add and remove managers in an existing chat room. Similarly, Unify provides the full range of chat room member management features including the ability for designated administrators and chat room managers to add and remove members in an existing chat room without requiring access to the native tools. Additionally, administrators can drive membership in chat rooms or location of chat rooms based on pre-defined business rules and IT policies.

Managing and Configuring Buddy List

Unify provides the ability to automatically configure and pre-populate the buddy lists either during on-boarding or as part of account maintenance selected user role. Existing users can import or export their buddy list if policy permits. This gets you working faster by allowing instant use of your buddy list from the moment the user account is provisioned. It can also include department lists or other pre-defined lists for people in your department or company.

Unify was co-developed with Microsoft and is used to administer over 1.5M users
