5. WebCatcher: Use WebCatcher to optimize the Websense Database for your needs. Sites visited at your company that are unrecognized are automatically sent to Websense for review. Appropriate sites are then added to the database. By using WebCatcher, the Websense database will adapt to the surfing patterns of your company, ensuring that sites visited by employees are categorized and can be managed.

Websense Enterprise resides on the network in up to three areas - at the gateway level for Internet filtering, at the network level for protocol management and bandwidth optimization, and on the individual desktop for management of software applications.

Automated management of employee Internet usage.

Websense Enterprise Internet filtering uses pass-through filtering technology, the most accurate, reliable and scalable method available. All requests for Web pages pass through an Internet control point such as a firewall, proxy server, router, network switch or caching appliance integrated with Websense software.

Each request is checked against the Websense EIM Database of more than 4 million sites in 44 languages to determine whether it should be allowed or denied. All requests and responses are then logged for reporting purposes. 

Management functionality that puts you in control.

With its customizable Internet filtering options, Websense allows management of Internet use that adapts to your corporate environment. Whether you elect to define use by user, group, workstation or network, and block, limit or defer access, Websense can accommodate all of your specific needs.

Websense subscribers receive automatic downloads of site additions every night to ensure automated filtering keeps up with the rapid evolution of the Internet. With the addition of an average of 25,000 new sites per week to the database this ensures your EIM efforts are always up-to-date.

Websense refreshes the Websense EIM Database in two ways.

First, our proprietary software techniques mine sites and classify them into categories. Any sites not categorized by this method are evaluated by qualified Internet analysts for classification. Second, Websense WebCatcher™ allows you to customize the database for your employee surfing patterns. Unrecognized URLs visited by your users are automatically and anonymously sent to Websense for review.

Appropriate sites are then added to the database and redistributed to all Websense customers, enabling you and your company to benefit from the surfing patterns of millions of employees managed by Websense Enterprise worldwide.
