The Radicati Group’s latest study, "Anti-Spaam Market Trends, suggests that in 2003, a company of 10,000 users with no anti-spaam protection will spend, on average, $49 per mailbox per year processing these messages. It also revealed that 94% of companies consider spaam to be a very serious problem; however, 43% still don’t have a formal policy in place.

Akonix L7 - what Legal & HR Managers need to know about IM & P2P
Because of Public Instant Messaging's “chatty” nature, employees tend to find the conversations have a casual feeling. According to a study by Dr. David Greenfield of Virtual Addiction, “22% of regular internet users report cyberflirting”.

Public Instant Messaging lacks archiving and auditing capabilities it is almost impossible to monitor these conversations. This fact is often recognized by employees and leads to continued, inappropriate interactions.

Because Public Instant Messaging and P2P File Sharing lack corporate management, they are used to transfer inappropriate files. These files typically fall into one of 4 categories:

Copyrighted Video
Copyrighted Software
Copyrighted P0rn0graphic Video

Copyright holders such as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) are actively suing companies that allow the use of P2P File Sharing within their computer networks.  Viruses and worms have learned to take advantage of the holes in Public Instant Messaging and P2P File Sharing, as centralized anti-virus software typically installed in corporations can't scan file transfers through IM and P2P.

Mail Attender for Domino V6 adds new email archiving and mail creation management
Mail Attender now has expanded functionality specifically designed to work with R6 capabilities. These new features allow companies to save costs through storage reclamation and prevent potential liabilities by restricting inappropriate or confidential information from being sent or stored. New features include:

NEW USER CREATION RESTRICTIONS
Prevent inappropriate emails from being saved and/or sent and proactively protect against liabilities.
Using the ‘Creation’ restriction, the administrators can prevent messages from being saved/sent that have any of the following:

Attachment names - The administrators can specify attachment names/wildcards (e.g. *.avi).
Attachment size - The administrators can specify a maximum size for attachments.
Document content - The administrators can specify keywords/phrases.
Document size - The administrators can specify the maximum size for a message.
Recipients - The administrators can specify invalid addresses (SendTo, CopyTo, BlindCopyTo)

If any of the conditions are true, the administrator can perform one of three actions:
· Prompt - Present a dialog box to the user that details the problem, and empower the user to decide if the message should be saved/sent.
· Stop - Prevent the message from being saved/sent.
· Warn - Allow the message to be saved/sent, but also present a dialog box to the user that details the problem.

ATTACHMENT/DOCUMENT ARCHIVING
New and improved archiving capabilities reclaim storage space and ensure unique data is not lost. Archive Documents/Attachments to Another Server - Administrators can now archive attachments/documents to another server. Reclaim space on mail servers by moving data to static locations.

Use Attachment Modification Date to Determine Uniqueness - In addition to name and size classifications, modification dates can now be used to determine uniqueness. Ensure that if data is changed within an attachment, it will not be treated as a duplicate.

Attachments ‘Below the Line’ are Processed - Prior to R6, administrators could only process attachments within a Rich Text field. With Mail Attender 6.0, the administrator’s reach is expanded to ALL attachments.
