Safe Delivery of ZIP files - focused Attacks through ZIP & other Email Attachments strengthens the need for Day-Zero tools
In May, London’s Metropolitan Police arrested two computer consultants for developing malicious software that was sent to corporate computers via an email attachment, purporting to be a business proposal in order to trick users into downloading the spyware to steal corporate secrets and monitor activity.

MasterCard International Inc. on June 17 disclosed a security breach at CardSystems Solutions Inc., a provider of payment services for credit card companies. The hacking incident exposed up to 40 million credit cards to the hackers, caused by a malicious script placed in a computer that stored data at a CardSystems facility. These breaches are seen by security experts as further evidence of a growing trend toward more-tailored attacks directed against specific high-value targets.

To combat these threats, the new iSolation Server 2.0, a next-generation anti-virus solution uses virtual machine technology. It supplements existing anti-virus technology by identifying previously unknown and targeted threats in seemingly safe attachments such as ZIP files, testing for and observing malicious behavior in a secure, virtual environment. Version 2.0 offers scalability to more than 10,000 mailboxes, support for multiple servers and enterprise-class reporting capabilities with an SMTP traffic monitor that accurately profiles SMTP traffic.

"The most recent Sober virus outbreak is a signal to the industry that more innovation is needed to create layers of defense that can safeguard organizations from both new viruses and new strains of old viruses" said David Ferris, president and senior analyst at Ferris Research. "The era of e-mail viruses is certainly not behind us, and we expect that solutions such as the Avinti iSolation Server will grow in popularity as IT groups wrestle with this challenge."
