Exchange 2003 - are you ready to migrate?
As part of your preparation for Exchange 2003, you may wish to review the following tools:

Get permissions tidied up - Exchange Security Risk Auditor (ESRA) helps you identify and correct the security breaches in Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes & Public Folders such as incorrect Exchange or NT permissions, unauthorized 'send on behalf of' rights. 

Optimize OWA usability - PlusPack 2003 provides an Outlook-like experience to Reach browsers and to IE users in Basic-mode, without the performance overhead of OWA Premium-mode. With the addition of enhanced Addressing, Spell Check, Mark Messages Read/unread, Automatic Inbox & Refresh, Basic-mode and Reach client users will benefit from productivity-enhancing functionality.

Secure OWA access - AttachView allows users to view attachments in OWA without the security risk of downloading and leaving attachments behind for unauthorized users to access. SessionGuard eliminates the security risk of users unwittingly exposing Exchange to unauthorized access by blocking and clearing cached credentials and by allowing an Administrator to define a session time out.

Compress attachments beyond Outlook/Exchange 2003 - MaXCompression Enterprise delivers significant savings in mail transfer sizes beyond that available in Outlook/Exchange 2003. It automatically compresses and decompresses attachments at the Outlook client, at the OWA client, in Exchange server and at the SMTP gateway - transparently to the user.

New Domino R6 features for Mail Attender & DataBase Attender
Mail Attender for Domino R6 adds pre-delivery inspection of email. Using the ‘Creation’ restriction, administrators can prevent messages from being saved/sent that have any of the following:

  • Attachment names - attachment names/wildcards (e.g. *.avi).
  • Attachment size - a maximum size for attachments.
  • Document content - keywords/phrases.\Document size - maximum size for a message.
  • Recipients - invalid addresses (SendTo, CopyTo, BlindCopyTo)

If any of the conditions are true, the administrator can perform one of three actions:

  • Prompt - Present a dialog box to the user that details the problem, and empower the user to decide if the message should be saved/sent.
  • Stop - Prevent the message from being saved/sent.
  • Warn - Allow the message to be saved/sent, but also present a dialog box to the user that details the problem.

Database Attender (for non-mail Domino databases) has a new Records Management feature to help your organization reduce Legal Liability and comply with Government Regulations. New features include: 

  • Document Retention - Report and/or Delete Documents based upon Content, Date, Range, or Age (by Creation or Last Modified Date). Include/exclude databases and/or orphaned documents. 
  • Archiving  - Archive Documents based upon Date Range or Age (by Creation or Last Modified Date). Include/exclude databases and/or orphaned documents. 
  • Agent Reporting  - Report on the name of the agent for the last agent run date.

TOPPER Email & Server monitor now runs as a service
With the new release running as a Windows service, the TOPPER® software system combines proactive testing and passive monitoring of Messaging Systems, IP-based Services, and NT Server Networks to help ensure high availability and service level compliance without the need for agents on the monitored servers. 

Topper's early warning system helps speed up problem resolution and in most cases, problems can be resolved before any impact is noticed by users. TOPPER is easy-to-install and requires no agent software to be installed on the computers being monitored. Service Level Management statistics are produced to demonstrate to users and management the quality of service provided.

The TOPPER product family includes 4 distinct products all of which share a common management framework which includes configuration and testing, graphical display, alert notification and reporting. Each of the products are sold and priced separately, however, by combining features in various modules you may also create a customized version of TOPPER specific to your needs.

Clearswift, the developer of the MIMEsweeper suite, has secured its 15,000th customer as email security and compliance issues rise further up the agenda.

Going beyond anti-spam: Email and Web filtering and management technology is now a must-have solution for organizations of all sizes. In addition to spam, the MIMEsweeper Suite prevents other security threats entering a company network (spyware, fraudulent scams, viruses and other malicious code) as well as leaving or propagating within the organization (such as confidential information, libelous and inappropriate emails, insider trading tips).
