MIMEsweeper for SMTP V5 sets the benchmark for the content security industry
The release of MIMEsweeper for SMTP 5.0 is the most important announcement since the original launch of the product back in 1995 and sets a real benchmark for the industry. Not only does the world’s most advanced content analysis engine become even more powerful, it is now also the most scalable and manageable. Features and Benefits of MIMEsweeper for SMTP version 5.0

  • Consolidated Views—MIMEsweeper for SMTP 5.0 shows System Health, Message Manager, Policy Editor and Message Processing Queues – all from a consolidated Web-based console resulting in an easy to manage solution.

  • Automatic Threat Updates—Automatic threat updates assist administrators with protection from out-of-hours virus attacks, provides threat auto-updates, multiple Clearswift managed lists and enhances anti-virus applications giving administrators the security of 24/7 threat protection.

  • System Management—MIMEsweeper for SMTP 5.0 provides the ability to delegate administration and different roles for different functions. Message management is greatly enhanced with quarantine areas that hold up to 500,000 messages per server, and up to 2 million on a complete configuration. Multiple quarantine areas can be based on type. Personal Message Management allows users to review all messages that violate policy—not just spam messages—create user defined white lists, and provides multiple access points to the PMM queues.

  • Secure Deployment—Integrating security for Web connections with use of SSL and leveraging IP/Sec for secure communications between servers, MIMEsweeper for SMTP is one of the most secure applications on the market. End users are not allowed to access personal queues directly but enter through a Web server so mail servers are fully protected.

  • Email Prioritization—This allows the processing of threats according to policy-based priority. If the business decides, for example, that mail from Partners is more important than that from generic public accounts (e.g. Yahoo and Hotmail), the system can be set up to address these business critical communications first.

Anti-Spam controls the perimeter... but it misses 80% of your email traffic, internal email, probably the biggest threat!
Your anti-spam solution gives you confidence you can stop all email threats. But wait....what about internal email? SPAM solutions sit at the SMTP perimeter and will never see that 80% of your email traffic that is internal, yet a full one-third of security threats are generated from internal activity. Osterman Research classes this as the biggest messaging threat of all.... a user innocently downloads a threat from the web and emails it to a distribution list.... a laptop collects a threat from a traveling user and propagates when logged back into the network..... a disgruntled employee emails the latest customer list to their hotmail account before quitting. Check out our internal email content checking tools for Lotus Domino and Exchange 2000/2003 to prevent distribution of these threats.

Security Alert - do you open Attachments in OWA 2003?
You are breaching corporate confidentiality every time you open an attachment in OWA. How is this breach happening?

Every attachment opened in OWA is left behind on that machine for anyone to read and to distribute. Think about all the places where people use OWA - shared computers, airport kiosks, Internet cafes, customer sites - then think about the sensitive and confidential information frequently found in attachments: All of it is exposed to the world.

How do I deal with this security risk? You have two choices (or three, if you consider luck a strategy): First, you can block access to OWA attachments. This will solve the security issue, but it has the unfortunate side-effect of killing user productivity because email attachments usually contain vital information. Second, you can deploy AttachView....

Akonix shields FDIC Members from IM Security & Compliance Risks
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has prepared guidance to assist financial institutions in protecting themselves against the vulnerabilities of instant messaging (IM) and establishing policies and procedures concerning its usage. The July missive warns the FDIC's 5,300 member banks and financial institutions that unmanaged IM access, using popular consumer IM clients such as Yahoo!, Microsoft and AOL exposes them to security, privacy and legal liability risks. Threats include viruses and worms, illegal downloading of copyright material, loss of confidential information and identity theft.

The FDIC recommends that members protect themselves against these vulnerabilities by establishing policies and implementing solutions to allow, restrict or deny IM usage, based on the individual need of the enterprise.

The Akonix L7 provides all of the IM security and compliance solutions that Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) members require, to adhere to the recently issued FDIC financial institution letter, 'Guidance on Instant Messaging'.
