29 Crucial Email Archiving Questions

The Challenge of Selecting an appropriate Email Archiving Solution for your needs

ReSoft International has released an Email Archiving Checklist that addresses the crucial questions to be asked by an organization before committing to a particular vendor’s Email Archiving solution. Industry Analyst Gartner Inc. predicts that the worldwide market for e-mail archiving software will grow from $89 million last year to $883 million in 2009.

The checklist has resulted from examining the issues that have been faced by many of ReSoft International’s own customers in selecting appropriate Email Archiving technology. Developed into a series of over 25 questions that need to be addressed, the paper seeks to ensure a successful Email Archiving system implementation. Many of the questions posed are typically not considered in the evaluation cycle and can lead to unforeseen costs or project timescale slippage.

Search Lotus Notes Files without a Domino Server

The latest release of Discovery Attender for Notes version 6.4c.  provides a Desktop installation option that allows the discovery of content within .NSF files without a Domino server. Specifically developed for law firms and other parties operating outside of the Notes environment, the Desktop option allows searching without the need to install all of the specialized Notes components.

Law Firms are often handed .NSF files from clients in response to litigation or other legal matters, but typically lack the hardware and technical expertise to properly search them. The new Desktop installation of Discovery Attender bypasses the costly and cumbersome process of setting up an in-house Notes domain, while providing extensive e-discovery functionality such as content retrieval, culling and annotation that was previously only available with a server installation. In addition, users can easily create and execute custom searches directly from their desktops.

Discovery Attender for Notes is a search and discovery tool designed to automate investigative tasks in Domino server databases, instant message logs and common file storage areas. Discovery Attender assists IT, Litigation Support and Legal Teams in complying with the new amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and effectively gathers and produces responsive electrically stored information (ESI) in a timely, defensible manner.

Search for your Archived Email in Google & Windows Desktop Search

Enterprise users want interconnected systems that provide central search and control across all data types,” according to Sue Feldman, IDC’s vice president for search and digital marketplace technologies. “Far too much time is spent searching for data within emails, resulting in a significant loss of productivity

Archive One has responded to this requirment by introducing Archive Search Services, to incorporate archived email as part of a single point of search through a “Federated Search Provider” and support of the OpenSearch V1.1 standard.

The Federated Search Provider allows enterprise search solutions including Microsoft Search Server 2008, Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) and Internet Explorer’s ‘custom search providers,’ to pass search queries directly to Archive One and display returned results, making it fast and easy for a user to connect to their archived email data;

  • A Search Connector, which allows search servers such as Microsoft Search Server and Windows Search access to the Archive One index in order for them to build index data within their own servers for the fastest corporate data searching for the users;
  • A Google Search plug-in for search access to the email archive from Google Desktop and Enterprise;
  • Support for the OpenSearch v1.1 standard which allows any application supporting this standard to gain access to the archive data.
